James R. McClintock, Baxter Watson, and Horace Hunley certainly had their share of failures as they pioneered the creation of submarines during the Civil War. They teamed up to create two of the earliest submersible subs in the world–The Pioneer and The Pioneer II. But did they increase their success rate through their failures?
